My creative journey began when I was very young. I have always loved art, and my childhood dream was to become an illustrator…
I graduated from Leicester Polytechnic in 1987, with a 1st Class Degree in Graphic Design- specialising in illustration. I then worked as an illustrator at Eikon Ltd, a Design and Illustration Studio in Leicester, where I learnt how to be a commercial artist. I was expected to be professional, versatile, and able to cover a wide range of subjects, styles and mediums, from publishing to packaging.
When I started my family, I freelanced, and began to do more of my own- ‘Fine Art’ work (portraits, landscapes and still lives) and received private commissions. I now have a very eclectic portfolio of work that portrays a genuine enthusiasm for art in its many spectrums.
My tutoring has evolved from this love of art; I have a great enthusiasm to pass on my skills and knowledge. It is so rewarding to see someone however old, or from whatever walk of life, whether they’re a complete beginner or more accomplished, tap into their creativity and achieve something that they never thought they could. Art brings with it a feeling of wellbeing and fulfilment.
My aim is to inspire a creative journey of discovery in others, and to keep progressing artistically myself.
My studio is in Birstall, Leicester, and is a hub of creative activity for both young and old! It is a great space to learn, light, warm, and friendly, where you can acquire new skills and rediscover old ones.
